I think my mum finds life pretty boring, and she says her one friend often says the same. Its certainly an argument for early retirement that your sixties are more fun than your eighties. Sacrificing the former to work to pay for expensive healthcare in the latter isn't appealing

My mum (82) seems OK at the moment generally. She still does a lot of things and likes reading and watching TV. But, absolutely, quality of life is the key. Feeling 50 at 90 will be good, if it happens, but may involve very different economic circumstances to the classic post-WWII paradigm that we currently still inhabit.
