The constant push for better H&S and disabled access may bring self-driving cars even faster. Certainly any attempt to stop them will generate disability test cases.

Of course I won't get one until the technology is available in 3 year old city cars, which will be long after they appear at the luxury end.

That's a good point that the disabled lobby will be very active in promoting self-driving cars. They will be a huge thing for a lot of people even just people who can't drive like S or my friend J. At the moment, if S wanted to get a job outside London, she would have to learn to drive, but that might be the case in 10 years.
