Celestial M Weasel

I claim it I think, then, in a 2009 email
"Is there going to be a particular Jonbar junction in the great work?"
The great edifice should be , incongruously, located in Willesden Junction in all timelines. Just as "lots of planets have a North", "most timelines have a Willesden".

The earliest reference I can find to Jonbar (point) is in a comment to James N's now deleted LJ where I am disagreeing with Carlos the Jackass and someone else about The Cockney Policeman's Badger. The other person says they "don't know what to say" to me saying that Sitka in the novel doesn't have a great sense of place (which it doesn't)

Refinement, on most timelines the station is an edifice shared between timelines but in our timeline alone it's just Willesden Junction station

Paul M. Cray

Yes, Sitka doesn't have a great sense of place, but the novel's not really about Sitka.

"[M]ost timelines have a Willesden [Junction]" sounds very Adams. I am thinking more of Carnforth junction or Clapham Junction, but also the grand metropolitan termini, although obviously Jonbar Junction will be a through station.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is an impressive through station. Birmingham New Street is probably its antithesis.
What is The Cockney Policeman's Badger about?

Paul M. Cray

Love.

Yes, Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a good model. I remember seeing it with Dr M in 2000. It is especially relevant because the trains will be like Breitspurbahn ones. What will the city of Jonbar itself be like? Will different districts be inhabited by denziens from different timelines? So, you have a Hitler Victorious area and a Confederacy Wins one, along aside a Rome Never Fell and a Harold Won the Battle of Hastings?

Celestial M Weasel

It's about love?

Dr Paul M. Cray

It's about him getting back with his wife. We discussed this years ago at Howbury Park.

Yesbutnobut, why write an alternative history if you aren't going to do the world building?

Dr Paul M. Cray

He did a bit, but he was just more interested in other things.
